Inspiring the Masses by RednBlackSalamander Inspiring the Masses by RednBlackSalamander
Go ahead and laugh while you can, one-percenters! Someday, us American radicals will remember how to interact with people who aren't middle-class college students, and then you'll be sorry!

Yep, those students have some communication problems alright. Even though I share some of their sympathies, it's better to talk to people as individual human beings than labeled demographic groups.

Even in ultracapitalist states, such as Russia, 66% of labourers have more spare time than they need to think and discuss about anything.
But still - LMAO.

... this is also how I got labelled a TERF by those groups.

Seriously... after a while they just come up with some reason you actually are their enemy if you keep responding like that.

Not certain I'm wanting to make TERF canon for who I am though...

Its funny. The American Nazi Party (Rockwell's Group) dealt with that by having "low-brow" propaganda which was crude and to the point while also publishing intellectual writings for those who wouldn't like "nigger jokes" in political cartoons. Perhaps leftist movements should do such (i.e. different propaganda for different people, the stuff you give to poor black workers wouldbe different than university students).

Also to make it more accurate, make one of the students black =P

No, we don't need to be condescending, and we certainly don't need to start taking cues from the Nazis. We just need to break out of our elitist, academic bubble and offer something tangible to the working class. Poor people aren't stupid, in fact, the whole issue here is that they're smart enough to know that there's no point investing what little time and money they have into a radical political organization, when all they're going to get out of it is pseudo-intellectual jargon.

I think Rockwell himself used the term 'crude' and 'low brow', at least from what I remember from reading 'White Power''. Also, what do you mean exactly by 'elitist'?

I mean that too many Leftists, at least from what I've seen, tend to look down on the working-class people they're supposedly "liberating." The strong ties that used to exist between labor and the radical Left back in the 1930s is gone, and although it's true that the Red Scare is responsible for a lot of that, the Left hasn't done much to fix things. They're so obsessed with the academic side of things that they've basically reduced themselves to a glorified book club. Being in a radical union used to mean that if you got into a bad situation at work, there would be people willing to put themselves at risk to watch your back. Now, with the exception of a few groups in certain cities, that just isn't the case anymore. It's just endless discussions about proper vocabulary and petty sectarianism, none of which does a thing to actually improve the lives of people who are suffering under capitalism.

I admit I have at times been guilty at looking down on the working class but I have been trying to stop doing that. It can be difficult though when you see some working class red necks praise the Tea Party on the news.

We are seeing this day after day in Europe. Anyone in the left that tries to reach the real workers, speaking to them in their language is accused of "revisionist" or "demagogue"
Hey chaps! maybe we got a socialist gov for 2400!

I´ll give an example from my country, Spain:
Currently, Podemos, a new party with only 5 months of age has reached almost the same seats in europarliament (5) than Izquierda Unida (6), a party with almost 30 years of existence.
The success of Podemos came from the people which didn´t know about left, class struggle or didn´t understand it. Podemos speak to them in a easier way, explaining what left politics are and how to achieve it. Izquierda Unida (my party, in fact) is ruled by old men without connection with the street, and only try to convince the already convinced.
Izquierda Unida (not all, of course), instead of learning from Podemos experience, talk shit like "woooh they didn´t explain them THE WHOLE FUCKING SURPLUS! they are doing it WRONG!"
